SICK DFS60 are high-resolution programmable incremental encoders with a housing diameter of 60 mm and a wide range of mechanical connections. Thanks to the programming possibilities, the encoder's electrical output signal and interface can be adapted to any requirements.
This video shows the main programmable parameters of SICK DFS60 encoders and their meaning.

1. Can be used to set encoder parameters:

  • SICK PGT-08 computer programmer with USB connection and SICK free program SOPAS (programmable parameters can be viewed on video)
  • SICK PGT-10 portable handheld programmer (With PGT-10 it is possible to set all the same encoder parameters as available in the SOPAS program and shown in this video)Connecting the encoder to the programmer will require a corresponding connector transition, such as DSL-3D08-G0M5AC3.

2. When running the SOPAS program, you will see all the existing encoder parameters and programmable values:

Number of pulses per revolution: Depending on the encoder model, you can enter from 1 to 10,000 or from 1 to 65,536 pulses per revolution.

Zero Pulse Length: The index pulse, or Z signal, operates at one full encoder shaft speed and fixes the preset encoder zero position. The Z pulse can be used to operate an external meter or to determine an accurate position when extremely precise positioning is required.

The zero pulse length can be changed:

  • 90 electrical degrees (when the position of the index signal is synchronized with the edges of signals A and B) has been the standard for several years;
  • For compatibility with very old encoders, the zero pulse length can be increased to 180 or 270 electrical degrees;
  • In multi-axis motion synchronization solutions with electronics with limited response time, the zero pulse duration can be changed even more by determining it in mechanical degrees relative to the mechanical speed of the shaft.

Output type: The supply voltage range of the DFS60 series encoders is from 4.5 to 32 volts DC.

Choose:

  • TTL output type to generate a 5 volt output signal regardless of the supply voltage;
  • HTL output type to generate the output signal at the same level as the supply voltage.

After saving the entered parameters in the encoder, its functionality can be checked in the SOPAS program, allowing to set and equalize the zero pulse position with the actual encoder shaft position.

Advantages:

The wide range of encoders in the DFS60 series, complete with an encoder programmer, will allow you to quickly adjust and replace any other encoder, reducing potential downtime for production equipment.

Mechanical parameters of encoders:

  • Mechanical connection and shaft variations:
    • Servo or connection flange
    • Shaft diameter 6; 10mm
    • Hollow shaft diameter 6; 8; 10; 12; 15mm
  • Cable length and connector variations:
    • Radial or axial M23 or M12 connector
    • 8-pin shielded cable 1.5; 3; 5; 10 m
  • Housing diameter 60 mm; IP67 / IP65
